The remote Highlands of Iceland are the setting for one of the toughest races in the ultra running world, Fire + Ice Ultra.
Running an average of a full marathon every day for six days the competitors have to carry, on their backs, everything they'll need to complete the course.
For some, the battle to finish the race will involve overcoming fatigue and injury but the rewards will be worth the effort. Running past recently active volcanoes, glaciers and boiling mud pools, the participants will experience a landscape like no other on the planet. Indeed, Iceland has been described as akin to an alien world.
